Gallatin is the County Seat of Sumner County, Tennessee, located just 20 minutes Northeast of Nashville. A small town with a vast history and a multitude of offerings for the shopper, diner and wanderer.
Located on beautiful Old Hickory Lake, Gallatin is well-known to nature lovers. It is also a favorite among history buffs. One of Tennessee's oldest cities, Gallatin's history dates back to the Native Americans who first held this land and the Long Hunters, who later settled the area. Many people were attracted to the area by the rich land and the agricultural possibilities it held; others saw the promise of commerce that the Cumberland River's proximity. The history is steep, from ancient inhabitants, to the early settlers to the wars that were fought on the battlefields throughout the area, with many significant people and places still attracting those who want to know more.
Gallatin is one of the few Southern communities that still boasts a more than 200 year old town square as its town center. A revitalization streetscape is planned to further enhance the attractions located there. Boutique shopping, multiple dining options, a full array of professional services, live music venues, the Sumner County Court House and The Palace Theater (the state's oldest remaining silent theater) all contribute to a vibrant downtown.
